Power of We Consortium AmeriCorps, Allen Neighborhood Center, Volunteer Coordinator and Food & Fitness Coordinator
The Power of We Consortium AmeriCorps Program places AmeriCorps members throughout Ingham County to increase food security and reduce chronic disease in residents by focusing on two project goals:
1. Increase consumption of healthy foods and reduce food insecurity with gardening, food distribution and referrals.
2. Teach community members the importance of eating healthy foods and strategies to adopt better diets.
I served as the Volunteer Coordinator at Allen Neighborhood Center. My role and responsibilities were: to recruit, orient, and link volunteers to programs offered by Allen Neighborhood Center and other organizational needs, develop and implement volunteer retention strategies, and coordinate volunteer record-keeping. Each month I recognized one volunteer through social media, mailchimp, and in the office. They were recognized with an award and goodie bag created by myself. I promoted internships, events, and volunteer needs on several websites including MSU handshake, LCC, and Davenport. I managed our social media presence via photography, video shorts and daily posts. Additionally, I served the community through outreach events, strengthening relationships, and forging new ones.
